Operation Cleansweep: Clean your HQ

make_your_bed_army_styleKeeping Headquarters clean should just be a natural and expected part of kid life, but obviously this never seems to be the case. My boys first time in the history of their lives cleaned a room, actually clean without multiple checks just 2 weeks ago, so obviously I don’t have this figured out in it’s entirety. Perhaps the bribe of some man points will help.

Operation Cleansweep: Clean your HQ

MISSION BRIEF:
A large part of being a contributing member of society means that you need to clean up after yourself, simple as that. This mission is to focus on cleaning your primary living areas such as your bedroom, TV room, kitchen, bathroom or wherever you spend some time. This might be a large job if you don’t usually clean up, or a small one if you are better about not leaving your things about and chipping in around the house. Maybe for the future it would be easier on everyone if you kept up with this job so that you didn’t have to spend a whole day cleaning the H.Q..

EQUIPMENT:
Household cleaning equipment, vacuum, broom, dusting materials, bathroom cleaners, garbage bag

MISSION DETAILS:
You’ll handle your individual rooms or areas using a combined 3 Wave Assault. Wave 1: Quick Tidy, Pickup, Wave 2: Cleaning, Wave 3: Final Mission round up and Vacuum

    1. Start with your Room
      Start your mission in your own living quarters to demonstrate to your C.O. your appreciation for providing a place to lay your little shining face down at night.Wave 1: Full out assault on clutter and garbage.
      Get a garbage sack and do a sweep of all garbage and things you don’t need in your room. Go clockwise so that you can focus on all areas of your area. Now using that same method pick up and tidy anything that’s out of place in your room. Put it where it goes, not in a corner, if you don’t have a place for it, find one, or get rid of it.Tidying is simply arranging things so that they look nice. If you have a book that you want to leave out on your desk arrange it so it’s in-line with the edges of your desk.

      If you have dirty laundry put it in the laundry basket or in a pile that you’ll handle in Wave 2. If you have clean clothes laying around put them on your bed you’ll handle in that Wave as well. This is not the time to make 85 trips around the house putting things back. This is a quick operation get to it soldier! Anything that needs to leave your room like dishes, your brother’s Power Rangers or your Dad’s prized hammer should be set right outside your door and handled in Wave 2.

      Wave 2: Clean like the wind.
      Using the same method as Wave 1 start going clockwise in the same spot and work your way around dusting from the top of the wall to the bottom, getting everything as you go. Work from the top down as dust falls down as you go. Work quickly but thoroughly around the room. Now get your cleaner like Simple green and a cloth and spray and wipe in an S fashion down any fingerprints or gunk on the walls and surfaces. Scan every inch of your room looking up and down as you go. Use window cleaner and clean your windows or mirrors in the same way.

      Now put away that clean laundry you piled on your bed from before.

      Make your bed.

      Wave 3: Final Jobs and Finishing Touches
      Vacuum or sweep/mop your area. Again working clockwise get every inch of your floor, taking a little more time to be sure that you get everything as it should be. There should be nothing on the floor to block your way if you did Wave 1 correctly. Move furniture around so that you can vacuum under it. Yes your closet should be vacuumed too!

      Take dirty laundry to it’s location. Return any other items not belonging to your room to their location. Don’t make them somebody else’s problem, put them away too.

    2. Prepare for Inspection
      Before moving on have your C.O. inspect your work for a job well done.
    3. Move on to the next room
      Talk with your C.O. about which room you should focus on next.

MISSION PARAMETERS:
Keep your Headquarters clean should be a natural part of your existence. Your parents provide you a place to live and you show your gratitude by chipping in and doing your part. Your bedroom should be a bare minimum but you should also clean any other room you use regularly or wherever your C.O. wants you to focus your resources.
